You can tell by the care put into making this brooch that it was a labor of love. This is a brooch made by a Native American Northern Plains Artist. The Maker's Mark: The stamp below the sterling mark features a stylized hawk or eagle with outstretched wings containing the letters PVH stamped inside. This is the official artist signature for Mitchell Zephier (Sicangu Lakota Sioux). His traditional grandfather-given Lakota name translates to "Pretty Voice Hawk," from which he derives the PVH initials used to hallmark his collaborative family studio works
The brooch features Sterling silver, copper, brass, and some light areas of green enamel. The mother holds her baby child so sensitively. Please notice the textured brass background, copper for faces, and the intricate carving of the border of the heart, the green enameled areas of the H and M in green enamel on the sleeve the baby blanket over the child’s head. There was a lot of thought put into this design, and excellent workmanship and the imagery could be interpreted as mother Mary with baby Jesus since he does have a halo.
